News|New York celebrates NewFestThe New York Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Festival, or NewFest as it is widely known, will be taking place between June 3rd and 13th, NYCgo.com reports. It has been occurring in the city since 1988 and includes work collated from over 30 countries. Organisers accept pieces from young filmmakers that vary from short films to narrative features and documentaries. Participants might also like to submit their efforts for NewDraft, which is a screenplay competition. At last year's gathering, works included a drama by John Young entitled Rivers Wash Over Me and a documentary about ice skater Johnny Weir called Pop Star on Ice. June 9th will see a special appearance by Joan Rivers, who will be arriving at the SVA Theatre in Chelsea to see the screening of the piece Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work.
